Cattle Owner Held For Death Of Two Tigers In Nilgiris | Coimbatore News – Times of India



Udhagamandalam: A cattle owner from Emerald near Avalanche dam in the Nilgiris was arrested by the forest department on Monday for allegedly poisoning the carcass of his cow, which led to the death of two tigers on Saturday.
Following the death of two tigers at Emerald, the forest department formed a special team for investigation. On inquiring with the villagers of Emerald, the team learned that a cow belonging to Shekar had been missing for the past 10 days.
The team conducted an inquiry with Shekar.
“Shekar confessed that his cow went missing 10 days ago. While searching for it, he found the carcass of the cow near the surplus water of the Avalanche dam,” said D Venkatesh, conservator of forests of the Nilgiris and field director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR).Shekar had also confessed that out of anger, he had laced the carcass of the cow with pesticides, Venkatesh said. Statements of Shekar were recorded. Shekar was arrested by the forest department and remanded in judicial custody.“We are also awaiting the reports of the sample tests of the three carcasses, including two tigers and the cow,” Venkatesh said.The carcasses of the tigers were found at on Saturday.
