COIMBATORE: The Kangeyam police in Tirupur district on Monday arrested 10 dacoits and recovered 16 sovereigns of gold ornaments, Rs 10 lakh in cash, two cars and three mobile phones from them.
C Gunasekaran, 47, of Chavadipalayam near Kangeyam in Tirupur district, who is running an edible oil mill, was talking to his wife Selvi, sons Dhanush and Nidharsan at the residence around 9 pm on August 30.
Seven people, who covered their faces with clothes, entered the house. One of the gang members threatened Gunasekaran at knife point and another robber kept an iron rod on the head of Gunasekaran. Another member of the gang kept a knife on the neck of Selvi and the two boys were also kept under wrongful restraint.
The gang threatened the family that they should hand over all the gold ornaments. Otherwise, they would finish off the family members. The gang broke open a bureau in the house and took away 25 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 13 lakh in cash from the house.
The Kangeyam police registered a case against the dacoits.
The police have formed four special teams to nab the dacoits. The police teams arrested S Ramanathan, 35, C Surya, 27, D Prasanth, 25, A Murugan, 21, C Samidurai, 46, P John Kiruba, 37, P Vijayakanth, 31, all hailed from Salem district, P Annadurai, 32, P Sounder, 25 and S Selvam, 37, on Monday. All hailed from Vellimalai in Kallakurichi.
