Prayagraj: Sleuths of special task force of UP police on Monday claimed to have busted a Haryana-based inter-state gang involved in smuggling of illegal liquor and arrested three of its members near Lucknow-Sultanpur highway in Kamrauli area of Amethi district.
The police have seized 631 boxes of IMFL worth Rs 90 lakh, a truck, one mobile set and Rs 2460 cash from their possession. They were taking the consignment to Bihar from Chandigarh and Haryana. Those arrested were Gurupreet Singh (truck driver), Krishna (co-driver) and Ashu (cleaner), all residents of Ambala. A team of STF (Prayagraj unit) intercepted the truck from Palia Paschim turn and found seized the liquor hidden among 148 pasta filled sacks.
Police said the gang was involved in smuggling of illegal liquor to Gujarat, Bihar and Jharkhand for a decade. Police have been looking for three key racketeers identified as Pawan Kumar of Fatehabad, Manvir Singh alias Manu of Hisar and Yogesh of Chandigarh. Each truck driver was being paid Rs 25,000 cash for delivering the consignment.
