ULHASNAGAR: The employees of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Tuesday on Tuesday staged a pen-down protest against BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who scolded water department employees in front of senior officers at a meeting organized at the UMC headquarters.
On Monday, a high-level meeting was organized by UMC commissioner Aziz Shaikh at the headquarters at which officials from water department and senior officers of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited(MSEDCL), MLA Ganpat Gaikwad and MLA Balaji Kinikar were invited.
The meeting was organized on the instructions of industries minister Uday Samant to resolve the water crisis in Ulhasnagar town.
During the meeting it was observed that UMC’s water department officials, who accuse MIDC of not providing proper water supply for the city, were giving contradictory information about how much MLD water UMC regularly gets from MIDC.
As a result Gaikwad got angry and openly scolded water department employees for not giving proper answers and giving contradictory statements.
When Gaikwad was scolding officials, BJP’s Ulhasnagar district president Pradeep Ramchandani who was also present at the meeting tried to intervene but Gaikwad, before all, also scolded Ramchandani asking him to remain silent when he was speaking.
After a video of Monday’s meeting went viral on social media on Tuesday, UMC staffers went on a pen-down protest.
The staff union leaders claimed during the meeting, Gaikwad used abusive language against the staffers before many “which demoralizes our staffs and we are making peaceful protest so that he should realize his mistake”.
