Guwahati: The all Assam retired elementary tutors’ association accused the state government of depriving over 9,000 retired tutors of the LP and ME schools of the state of economic benefits in a press meet held here on Tuesday.
They said the tutors were deprived of economic benefits that they were entitled to get post-retirement. The teachers were teaching in venture schools prior to their appointment as tutors. These 9,000 teachers from across the state were given appointment letters as tutors at a mega job fair held at the Sarusajai stadium in which over 30,000 appointment letters were distributed in a single day on February 5, 2021.
Addressing the media, Soneswar Konwar, secretary of the association said, “The then education minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma had publicly announced that the appointed tutors will get a one- time gratuity amount of Rs 10 lakh even if someone retires on the very next day of getting the appointment. Since then over thousand teachers have retired. However, no one has received the amount yet.”
