AHMEDABAD: A woman abandoned by her husband was saved from a suicide bid by a team from the 181 Abhyam helpline. According to counsellors, a friend spotted the woman, living in the city’s western part, trying to end her life at her residence, and immediately called on the helpline.
“The woman had a love marriage about 12 years ago. The couple has three girls and run a massage and spa parlour. They had taken a home loan in the woman’s name. Earlier this year, her husband developed a liking for one of the girls working at the parlour and moved in with her. The woman left home in despair but had to keep paying the EMIs because her husband was not paying them,” a counsellor said.
She gave birth to a boy some time ago, but the child did not survive long due to congenital lung defect. According to the counsellor, the woman’s husband did not even come to see the child.
“Hit hard by this snub and tired of the financial crunch and marital discord, she wanted to end her life. She was counselled on her rights and the legal recourse available,” said the counsellor.
