Burial Ground Gets Facelift At ₹26 Lakh In Tirupur District | Coimbatore News – Times of India



Coimbatore: Publicity and Tamil development minister M P Saminathan inaugurated a revamped burial ground at Ganapathipalayam here on Tuesday.
The burial ground was modified with new equipment for burning bodies, a sitting area and a park at a cost of ₹26.46 lakh under the ‘Namakku Naame’ scheme.
According to an official source, the cremation facility on the burial ground was constructed about 10 years ago. “As it started developing issues frequently, the local residents were forced to travel all the way to Kangayam or Moolanur to perform last rites for the dead.”
The minister also laid a foundation stone for building four classrooms at the Uthamapalayam government higher secondary school in Vellakovil panchayat union at a cost of ₹85.44 lakh. The project would be funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.
In ward 17 of Kamarajapuram, the minister threw open a park, which was developed at a cost of ₹16.35 lakh, to the public under the Amrut scheme. In order to put an end to open defecation, he said, toilets had been built for the public at Semmandampalayam, Agalaraipalayam Pudur and Uppupalayam at a cost of ₹79.52 lakh.
