Mkcg Starts Operation Of Dialysis Machine In Icu | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Berhampur: The MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Wednesday started operation of a dialysis machine in the central intensive care unit (ICU) for kidney patients in critical condition.
“The machine was not functioning for the past few days due to a technical problem. Now the machine has started functioning and it will give relief to critical patients with renal failure,” said Suchitra Dash, superintendent of MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Earlier, patients admitted in ICU and requiring dialysis were shifted to the general dialysis unit of the urology department for treatment.
There are 12 dialysis machines in the urology department. The dialysis of 25 to 30 patients is conducted in the general unit daily.
“As the urology department receives a significant inflow of patients with renal failure, we will write to the government for installation of more dialysis machines in the general dialysis unit,” Dash said.
Subash Sahu, a private practitioner, said there was no use in installing more machines without appointing more doctors. “Considering the inflow of patients with renal failure to the medical college and hospital, we have been demanding posting of more doctors in the urology department for the past few years,” said Sahu, who is also vice president of BJP’s Ganjam unit.
