Prithvi Shaw set to miss major part of 2023-24 domestic cricket Season due to injury | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Indian opener Prithvi Shaw is facing an extended period on the sidelines as a result of a knee injury sustained during his stint with Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup in England. According to reports on ESPNCricinfo, scans following the injury have revealed a more severe condition than initially anticipated.
“After initially consulting a surgeon in London, Shaw returned to the NCA in Bengaluru for another assessment. At the moment, the medical team is examining all possible options regarding Shaw’s treatment and surgery is likely to be the last resort,” stated the report.
Before his injury, Shaw, aged 23, had been in prolific form during his four appearances for Northamptonshire, boasting an impressive average of 143. He amassed a total of 429 runs at a striking rate of 152, with his remarkable 244 off 153 balls against Somerset etching his name into List A history as the sixth-highest individual score.
An official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) conveyed that they would adopt a cautious approach regarding Shaw’s availability and remain in close contact with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to ascertain his readiness for participation in the Ranji Trophy scheduled for January.
However, Shaw’s presence in limited-overs competitions, beginning with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on October 16, appears uncertain at this point.
Shaw’s recent performance had encountered a rough patch while representing the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, where he managed just 106 runs in eight matches. Consequently, he was not selected for India’s T20Is in Ireland or the upcoming Asian Games.
Earlier in July, the right-handed batsman had featured for the West Zone squad during the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru before embarking on his journey to England to represent Northamptonshire. It is confirmed that Shaw will return to Northamptonshire for the second half of the 2024 county season, participating in both the County Championship and One-Day Cup.
