Cong Starts Party Overhaul, Says Seat-sharing Talks On Sept 17 | – Times of India

Ranchi: The state unit of Jharkhand Congress would present its first draft of seat sharing formula among the INDIA bloc partners in the state, before its high command during the Hyderabad meet scheduled from September 16 to 18, party sources said on Thursday. Sources further added that the meeting of the Congress’ extended central working committee (CWC) with focus on Jharkhand is slated to be held on September 17. “State party president Rajesh Thakur and leader of legislative party would present the seat sharing formula among INDIA bloc in Jharkhand for the 2024 general elections. Other aspects of the organisational overhaul, strengths and weakness of the party on the ground, would be discussed for appropriate action during the meeting,” said a senior party member.
Congress has started its groundwork to give an overhaul to the party for becoming battle ready. Speaking to TOI, Rajesh Thakur said they were working in a multi-pronged approach to consolidate the party base on the ground. Citing a few key tasks under way, he said, “We have recently reviewed the 24 districts to evaluate the formation of panchayat and booth-level committees. We would remove the in-charges of the few districts, where panchayat and booth-level committees are still not in place, on a priority basis. We have assigned the convenors and the in-charges of all the 14 Lok Sabha seats to work towards strengthening the winning prospects of the alliance. We had rolled out leadership development mission in Khunti and Lohardaga on a pilot basis, with focus on targeting SC, ST, minorities and women pockets. The initiative would be rolled out in the remaining constituencies over the next few days.”
In 2019 general elections, Congress had fought from seven seats, JMM from four, RJD from one, while Congress gave JVM-P two seats from its quota.
“We will work out similar arrangements with minor alterations among the key allies. Left might be accommodated in place of JVM-P. Winnability will be the key to outsmart BJP,” added the source.
