Ncp Mla Warns Of Holding Tmc Responsible For Surge In Illegal Constructions In Suburbs | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has warned of holding the Thane municipal administration and the commissioner responsible if there is a repeat of the Lucky compound disaster in the suburbs. Awhad was replying to a media query on the rising illegal constructions in the suburbs especially in Mumbra and Diva.
The legislator alleged a nexus between the land mafia and certain civic officials who prefer to cast a blind eye to this mushrooming menace. “Illegal buildings are coming up at a rapid pace in the suburbs. The structures are being readied haphazardly without following safety norms. It seems the next Lucky compound is bound to happen and if it does we will be forced to hold the commissioner and the administration responsible,” said Awhad. In 2013, an eight-storeyed building in the Mumbra Lucky compound collapsed killing 74 and leaving over 60 injured. Meanwhile, Sanjay Ghadigaonkar, Shiv Sena UBT functionary also accused the administration of misleading the commissioner on the issue. A response from municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar was awaited at the time of going to the press.
