Kanpur: An elderly couple was brutally hacked to death in the Dibiyapur area of Auraiya district on the intervening Thursday and Friday night.
The two children of the deceased couple have accused their elder brother of murdering them over a land dispute.
Police have recovered an axe from the spot. Senior police officers, including the superintendent of police, reached the spot and supervised the investigations. The incident came to light on Friday morning, when the family members came across the severed bodies of Shyam Lal Rajput (80), and his wife Ramjanki (75), lying on separate cots in a hut near the house and they immediately alerted the police control room. Subsequently, senior police officers, including SP Charu Nigam reached the spot along with a forensic team. “The deceased’s sons Umakant and Sarvesh have accused their elder brother Ramakant of murdering their parents over a land dispute. The police have seized the axe found on the spot,” said SP. The police have taken away Ramakant’s wife and two daughters present in the house for questioning. Since Ramakant was not found in the village, the suspicion of the murder of his parents deepened. Sarvesh said, “My father had transferred four `bighas’ of agricultural land in my and Umakant’s name due to which Ramakant often quarrelled with him because he did not get the land for farming”.
“On late Thursday night, when his parents were fast asleep in the shed, Ramakant arrived there and hacked his parents to death using an axe and fled the spot,” the police said.
Five teams have been formed and sent to the possible hideouts of the accused, the SP said.
