Rajkot: A 28-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special POCSO court in Rajkot for the rape of a 12-year-old girl on Friday.
Special judge J D Surtha found Ankit Deshani guilty of raping a minor girl in Paddadhri village of Rajkot in July 2020.
According to case details, the rape survivor’s mother considered Deshani as her brother. The girl got injured while playing on July 1, 2020. So, Deshani took her to the hospital for dressing.
While returning home, the accused took the girl to an isolated place and raped her. He also threatened to kill her mother and sister if she told anybody about it. However, on the same night, the girl complained of abdominal pain and told her mother about the sexual assault by Deshani.
Following this, the girl’s mother lodged a police complaint and accused Deshani was arrested.
The public prosecutor in the case said that the court convicted the accused based on the medical evidence and statements of government witnesses.
