Rajkot: The death of two children due to food poisoning in Gondal town of Rajkot district turned out to be a murder committed allegedly by their own father. Gondal police on Sunday arrested 47-year-old Rajesh Makwana in the case.
Police said Makwana made his two sons — Haresh (13) and Rohit (3) — drink poison telling them it was medicine. Police said that Makwana had initially cooked up a story that his two children had suffered food poisoning after eating stale food.
Makwana, who works as a labourer, was facing a severe financial crunch, they added. Also, he was upset over his divorce that had left him with responsibility of taking care of the two children. The children were admitted to hospital with severe vomiting on the night of September 15. They died during treatment on September 16 evening. tnn
