Prayagraj: UP Congress president and former MLA Ajay Rai on Friday appeared before the fast track court of Prayagraj district court in connection with the ongoing trial in the murder case of his brother Awadhesh Rai.
Ajay Rai is informant in the case, in which gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari is the main accused and has already been awarded life term by the sessions court in Varanasi. However, since the high court at one stage had directed that the trial of other accused of this murder case would be held at Prayagraj, the fast track court had issued warrant asking Rai to appear before it for hearing in this case. Though Rai appeared before the court on Friday, the hearing had to be deferred as another witness of this murder case was absent. The fast tract court has now fixed October 10 as the next date for hearing,
With Rai appearing before the court, the fast tract court also recalled the warrant issued against him earlier, said district government counsel (criminal), Gulab Chandra Agrahri.
