Stalin unveils Silampoli Chellappan statue in Namakkal district | Chennai News

NAMAKKAL: Chief minister M K Stalin unveiled Tamil scholar and writer ‘Silampoli’ Su Chellappan’s statue at Siviyampalayam in Namakkal district on Saturday. He unveiled the statue through video conferencing from Chennai.
Recalling Chellappan’s passion for Tamil, Stalin said he was the first student who raised voice against the Hindi language when the then central government attempted to make it the national language. Chellappan was then pursuing his degree in National College in Trichy.
Starting his career as a mathematics teacher in an elementary school, Chellappan wrote several books in Tamil.
“Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) lauded Chellappan as ‘Silampoliyar’ as he did deep research in Silapathikaram,” Stalin stated.
Chellappan’s family members thanked the CM for unveiling the statue. They urged the CM to recommend his name for Padma awards or Bharatha Ratna for his contribution to the Tamil language.
