Tension in Bihar village after drunken youth vandalizes part of temple | Patna News – Times of India



PATNA: Enraged over an incident of vandalism in a temple allegedly by a drunken youth, people on Saturday blocked the national highway -31 (NH-31) near Khatopur village under Lakho police station area in Begusarai district. The agitated people also damaged a few shops of a particular community in the village, leading to communal tension in the area.
Hearing about the incident, the Begusarai DM Raushan Kushwaha and the SP Yogendra Kumar rushed to the spot and controlled the mob. They also restored movement of traffic on the NH by clearing the road blockade.
“Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the mob. Four persons have been taken into police custody. The person who caused some damage in the temple has been identified. Raids are being conducted to nab him. He will be arrested,” the SP told media persons. He also said the situation in the area is now under control of the administration.
Local people said the trouble in Khatopur began on Saturday morning after villagers came to know that a part of a temple had been vandalized by someone. They said, a drunken youth committed the misdeed.
Enraged over the incident of vandalism, the local people damaged some shops of a particular community. They also damaged a meat shop near Khatopur chowk by using an earthmover.
Hearing about the incident, Union minister and Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh reached the village and inquired about the incident from local people. Singh expressed his resentment over the incident of vandalism in the temple.
