Guwahati: Sleuths of a special task force (STF) of Assam Police apprehended six drug peddlers from Khanapara in Guwahati on Saturday. A nefarious racket that was involved in supplying drugs to youths in the city was busted, police said.
A total of 46 grams of heroin were seized from them. Police sources said the value of the heroin recovered is over Rs 30 lakh.
They said one of the arrested drug peddlers is a native of Bornihat in Meghalaya, close to Khanapara in Guwahati from where they were arrested. The rest are from Guwahati and other parts of the state. The racket was mainly active in the city.
“Acting upon a source input on a probable drug consignment, an operation was launched by STF, Assam on Saturday in Guwahati to foil the criminal act by apprehending the persons involved. Accordingly, the team of STF got hold of a team of six drug peddlers along with 46 grams of heroin concealed in 33 vials at Khanapara in Guwahati,” read the police statement.
The recovered heroin and the six peddlers were handed over to the Basistha police station. A police official said all six will be produced before a local court on Sunday.

Five young drug peddlers, including three women, were arrested in Coimbatore for selling ganja near a private college. The peddlers approached drug addicts through Instagram voice calls. Police seized 1.5kg of ganja from them. The accused were found standing suspiciously near the college and gave contradictory statements when questioned. The investigation revealed that they used Instagram calls to supply drugs. The peddlers have been remanded in judicial custody.
