Kanpur: A video of a city constable is going viral on social media in which he is heard threatening a mechanic. He says, “My grandfather has committed not one or two, but 2000- 2500 murders.” In the video, he is also heard talking to someone on the phone, asking him to send 150 boys as “this problem has to be fixed, the decision needs be taken today itself.” The constable has been identified as Surendra Dubey posted in Narwal police station.
TOI, however, does not confirm the veracity of the viral video. Taking cognizance of the viral video, DCP (East) Ravindra Kumar has ordered a probe. Meanwhile, ACP Amarnath Yadav said that this constable is posted in Narwal police station and had gone on duty in the area. “On the way, he stopped at a motor-cycle repairing shop and got into an argument with the mechanic. During preliminary probe, it came to fore that the vehicles that had come for repair, were parked on the road in front of the mechanic’s shop. The constable had an argument with the mechanic when he had apparently asked him to not park the vehicles on the road. The matter is being further investigated,” Yadav said.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated in an affidavit that journalistic freedom is protected and self-restraint and self-regulation are promoted in the field of journalism. The government emphasized that it only intervenes in cases related to national security and that there is no statutory vacuum in terms of regulating irresponsible reporting and addressing viewer grievances. The affidavit was filed in response to a plea by the News Broadcasters and Digital Association against the observations of the Bombay High Court regarding media trials.
