Mandya: Stating that he will be with the government on the Cauvery issue, former CM HD Kumaraswamy urged the government for immediate stoppage of water without bothering about the legal consequences.
Highlighting the 2016 Supreme Court judgment with regard to the sharing of Cauvery water, Kumaraswamy said if water is not released to Tamil Nadu, it would not attract contempt since there is no sufficient water in the KRS reservoir.
Expressing solidarity with the protesting farmers in Mandya, the former CM criticised deputy CM and water resources minister DK Shivakumar, asking him to concentrate more on the Cauvery issue instead of focusing only on Bengaluru.
Kumaraswamy also warned a Tamil Nadu minister for his remarks about farmers in Karnataka and about river Cauvery. “Congress, by forming the INDIA, has been pushing the people of Karnataka into distress. They are only working to please Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge,” he said.
Kumaraswamy criticised water department officials for not attending meetings in person. Kumaraswamy claimed that Tamil Nadu officials attended the meeting of Cauvery Water Management Authority in person with relevant documents whereas our officials attended meetings through video conference.

Commenting on JD(S) joining the NDA, the former CM also said the decision was made to safeguard the interests of farmers and people. He also assured the protesters that the party would be with them in the Cauvery struggle.
