SURAT: A 44-year-old man was arrested by police for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl who had come to stay at his home. The survivor is a distant relative of the accused and came to stay with the accused’s family for the purpose of study.
The crime came to light after the minor shared the details with women living in a neighbouring locality. They then shared the information with police. On being alerted, police started a preliminary investigation and after confirmation they arrested the accused.
The accused, Mohammad Anwar Hussain Shaikh, was arrested for allegedly raping the minor multiple times in the last two months. The accused raped the minor during night hours when the family members were sleeping. The accused is an employee in a textile unit and father of three boys.
The accused and the minor’s family are from Bihar. The survivor’s parents are working in Assam and had sent the girl to the city to study in a madrassa. She was staying with the accused.
“The girl was initially terrified but following repeated crimes, she shared some details with the women living in the neighbouring locality. They then alerted police and we rescued the girl,” said an officer from Sachin police station.
