Rajkot: A 45-year-old advocate of Morbi died of cardiac arrest on Friday night, making him the 14th person to fall victim to cardiac arrest in Saurashtra in the past six months.
Lawyer Bhupendrasinh Jadeja’s death is the fifth death due to cardiac arrest of persons under the age of 45 in a week in Saurashtra. Earlier this week, while three people died in Rajkot in a day and one youngster died in Junagadh while practising garba.
According to advocates, Jadeja complained of chest pain around 1am on Friday night and became unconscious. He was first taken to a private hospital and from there, he was taken to Civil Hospital where he was declared dead because of cardiac arrest.
Jadeja practised cases related to Motor Vehicles Act. His colleague Jitubha Jadeja said, “Bhupendrasinh was completely healthy and he had no co-morbidities. He has a 16-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.
Jadeja was a native of Dhunda near Ravapar and he also owned agricultural land. His colleagues said he was financially sound and living a stress-free life.
Cardiologists say the sudden heart attacks do not happen in isolation. There are often underlying causes, including latent diseases like diabetes, hypertension or unhealthy lifestyle. Regular health checks can be an effective preventive factor.
On September 21, three men, all less than 45 years old, died in a day in Rajkot city. They were Kishan Dhabaliya (26), Mahendra Parmar (41), and Rajendrasinh Vala (40). Dabhaliya was a cashier with a private bank.
Again, on September 22, 24-year-old garba enthusiast Chirag Parmar died of sudden cardiac failure in Junagadh. He was practicing garba steps in a class when he suddenly collapsed and died.
“In some of the young patients we examined recently, there was a history of viral infection that elevated the inflammation level. Impact of heat, physical exertion and other stressors should also be taken into consideration,” said a cardiologist.
Dr Samir Dani, an Ahmedabad-based interventional cardiologist, said irregular heart rhythm is often the reason for heart attacks in young population.
“If not heart attack, then arrhythmia or irregular heartbeats could be the cause of the sudden deaths,’’ he said.
