Surat: A moving train caught fire near Valsad on Saturday afternoon. Passengers claimed that timely chain pulling by them saved many lives.
Passengers got off the affected coach and were later shifted to Valsad railway station. The fire started in the power car and spread to the adjoining passenger coach. No casualties were reported while a few passengers alleged that they could not recover their luggage.
The train, Tiruchirappalli Junction to Shri Ganganagar Humsafar Express 22498, was going towards Surat. The train was halted at around 2.20pm near Chhipwad village of Valsad following the fire.
The affected coaches were separated at around 2.55pm. The passengers were taken to Valsad railway station and were offered refreshments. The train later departed at around 5.41pm for the onward journey to Shri Ganganagar.
Passengers told media persons at Valsad railway station that the fire started in the power car and it later spread to the B1 coach. The passengers claimed that they pulled the chain after which the chain stopped.
“The fire was detected in the power car and alerted railway staff stopped the train. The adjoining coach passengers were de-boarded and all passengers were safe,” said a railway official.
Railway started a helpline to share information related to the passengers. The exact reason behind the fire was yet to be found.

The South East Central Railway (SECR) has introduced Third AC Economy coaches in 18 trains to provide passengers with enhanced comfort and affordability. These coaches have more seating capacity compared to traditional Third AC coaches, with 83 seats instead of 72. The fare for a Third AC Economy berth is two and a half times the fare of a sleeper berth. The coaches are equipped with modern amenities such as individual AC ducts, bottle stands, reading lights, and charging facilities.

Mumbai: Central Railway to felicitate RPF official who saved passenger’s life at Kurla station
A Railway Protection Force (RPF) official will be honored by the Central Railway for saving a passenger’s life at Kurla platform. The RPF constable, Mukesh Yadav, administered CPR to the unconscious passenger, which helped save their life. The passenger was then taken to Bhabha hospital with the assistance of the station master, RPF, and GRP. Doctors at the hospital commended the timely CPR, and the passenger’s condition is now stable.
