Nagpur: The members of an inter-state gang broke open two ATM kiosks — one at Dongargaon near Jamtha and another at Buti Bori — and decamped with Rs 40 lakh in the early hours of Saturday. None of the two kiosks, located close to the highway, had a security guard.
The gang first targeted the ATM of a nationalized bank near Dongargaon. They arrived on the scene in a car, cut open a portion on the right side of the cash vending machine using gas cutters and took away Rs 24 lakh. Police said the gang managed to flee with the cash in less than 20 minutes. The thieves, with their faces covered, first sprayed black paint on the CCTV cameras. They took away the recording modem to ensure the CCTV cameras failed to record any of their movements. Hingna police are probing.
Later, they headed for Buti Bori and broke an ATM machine by the road side before fleeing with Rs 15 lakh. An offence was registered with the Buti Bori police station.

The officer, identified as Bhupinder Singh, had been in an inebriated state and created a nuisance on Bharathiyar Road. He argued with a shop owner and damaged the camera before stopping motorists on the road. The issue has been resolved amicably, but the officer is required to appear for further inquiry on Monday.
