Kendrapada: A community health centre at Bari in Jajpur district was ransacked and its doctors and paramedical staff heckled on Sunday after a five-year-old patient died due to alleged negligence.
The patient, identified as Aprita, the daughter of Biranchi Geddy and Sita Geddy of Alipur village. On Saturday night, her parents took her to the health centre after she complained of feeling feverish and at around 9am on Sunday, she died after a doctor gave her an injection.
Her relatives alleged that the doctors did not pay adequate attention to her and administered the wrong injection. Enraged, they, along with the locals, ransacked the premises and set important documents of the hospital on fire. The doctors and the paramedical staff fled the spot.
Sibashis Moharana, chief district medical officer of Jajpur, said, “We need to do an autopsy to ascertain the reason behind her death but her family is not allowing us to do so.”
Sabyasachi Das, the medical officer of the centre, has lodged an FIR against the attackers.

Dr. Vaibhav Agrawal, an internal medicine expert, went above and beyond to save 70 stranded patients during a power outage caused by floods in Nagpur. Unable to use ambulances due to high water levels, Dr. Agrawal drove a private luxury bus to transport the patients to other hospitals. He even picked up a stray dog along the way. The entire hospital staff worked together to ensure the patients’ safety and deliver timely treatment. All the patients are now recovering in other hospitals.
