Panaji: An electric bus operated by the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC), on Sunday, narrowly avoided a collision with a speeding taxi, which was in its lane in Chicalim, resulting in significant damage to the bus.
“The incident occurred at the panchayat circle, Vasco, around 9.10am. There was no casualty or injury reported,” said KTC managing director Derek Periera Neto.
E-bus driver Reginaldo Godinho said that the taxi was coming from the opposite direction towards Panaji. He added that, to avoid a collision with the taxi, he turned the bus slightly to the left, but the vehicle skidded on the wet road and he lost control over it. The bus then dashed against a wall.
There was significant damage to the e-bus, with the front wind shield, passenger door, front bumper, and two emergency glasses on the passenger door side shattered. “We are on a hire-purchase basis with the manufacturer. The cost of the bus repair will therefore be borne by the manufacturer,” said Neto.
