BHUBANESWAR: The Railways has approved the extension of Sambalpur-Varanasi Express up to Visakhapatnam via Bargarh, Balangir, Titlagarh, Kesinga and Rayagada. It will enhance rail services in the western and southern districts of Odisha, said the East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources.
Official sources said people of Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi and Rayagada had urged railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to these regions. Many people of these areas can use this train to perform rituals in Allahabad and Varanasi, said the ECoR statement issued on Monday.
Besides business and trade, the train can meet the demand for easier access to quality healthcare and educational services, as many residents from these areas often travel to Visakhapatnam.
The Varanasi-Sambalpur-Varanasi (18312/11) Bi-weekly Express will facilitate easier travel to crucial junctions like Kashi, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Hatia, Ranchi, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.
