Dharwad: Hundreds of people thronged the Srujana Audirotium in Dharwad on Monday to get their grievances redressed at the first Janata Darshan programme organised by the district after the new Congress government came into power.
The Janata Darshan was held at all the districts as per the direction of chief minister Siddaramaiah with the district ministers present at the programme.
Over 450 applications had been received from all seven taluks of Dharwad district. While 30% of the problems were solved on the spot, some of them which required permission at higher level and at government level were forwarded to the departments.
While Dharwad taluk recorded the highest number of applications, newly formed Alnavar taluk received the minimum number.
According to officials, 143 applications were received from Dharwad taluk, 15 from Alnavar, 25 from Navalgund, 55 from Kundgol, 72 from Kalaghatagi, 45 from Hubballi City and 48 from Hubballi Rural. Senior citizens too were among those who had formed serpentine queues to air their grievances.
To streamline applications, the administration had set up separate counters for respective taluks and officials were appointed to receive the applications. Facility to file petitions online was also provided.
While a majority of the applications were related to land survey, distribution of title deeds, Ashraya houses, road construction and delay in getting pension under social security scheme, the urban citizens petitioned on UGD works, sanitation, improving facilities in parks, creating parking lots among others.
Lax officials warned
Speaking after inaugurating the Janata Darshan, minister Santosh Lad said that the Congress government’s priority is effective administration and to realise this, it had organised Janata Darshan.
Stating that people will approach the higher ups only when their works are not done at the lower level, Lad said this shows bad governance. The government will act against lax, corrupt and inefficient officials and they should improve their style of functioning, the minister warned.
Lad promised that taluk-level Janata Darshan too will commence shortly under the chairmanship of the DC.
Various government departments had set up stalls at the venue, highlighting the pro-people schemes implemented by the state government.
Though it was a public programme, none of the BJP MLAs from the district took part in the event. Congress MLAs NH Konaraddi and Prasad Abbayya were present.
