Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations went horribly wrong for two army men who had come home to Belagavi for the festivities, when one of them shot and greviously wounded the other using his licensed double-barrel gun. The victim was admitted to a hospital.
Police cited a financial dispute as the reason behind the incident. The accused is Nanjundi Laxman Budihal, while the victim is Basappa Mailappa Bambarge, both aged 32. Budihal has been taken into custody by police and a case has been registered at Ankalagi station.
According to police sources, both the accused and the victim are army personnel. The duo had come home to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.
Superintendent of police Bhimashankar Guled said after a heated argument between the duo, Budihal shot at Bambarge, using his personal gun, which he had bought in Kashmir.
Basappa survived the firing, though a bullet pierced into his stomach, police said. He remains in a critical state.
