Mysuru: Vellore-based Solid and Liquid Resource Management Project director Vellore Srinivasan, on Wednesday, said that there would be numerous benefits and huge profits if the garbage was properly sorted and reused.
The expert in waste management was delivering a lecture, during the Swachh Survekshan Gramin-2023 award and Swachhta Hi Seva awareness programme organised by the zilla panchayat at Kalamandir. In order to adopt the Vellore model for solid waste management and scientific management, the presidents and panchayat development officers were trained to create awareness among the public.
Srinivasan explained the success story of Vandse village in Udupi district in waste management. “The village has been generating lakhs of rupees as income through processing the waste,” he said. “We assume we cannot create anything from the waste, but can make numerous benefits and huge profits if the waste is segregated and processed properly,” he added.
Mysuru zilla panchayat CEO KM Gayathri said, “Community participation is much needed for solid waste management. Door-to-door waste collection, liquid waste management and block water management should be implemented in an adequate manner.”

The fourth mechanical solid waste transfer station in Ghaziabad will be inaugurated on October 2 at Madhuban Bapudham. The station, which is capable of treating 200 tonnes of waste per day, is part of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s plan to establish five smart waste transfer stations in the city. Waste mgmt lesson for schoolkids
The Chandigarh municipal corporation organized a trip for schoolkids to the sewage treatment plant and waste processing plant as part of their Swachhta Hi Seva initiative. The educational excursion aimed to provide practical knowledge and involve the youth in waste management initiatives. The students also visited a horticulture waste management plant and a Waste to Wonder Park. In other news, Kochi’s sewage treatment plant project has hit a roadblock as the Kerala Water Authority cannot act as the project management consultant. Additionally, Trichy is set to have its first construction and demolition waste recycling plant.

The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation in India also launched a program to educate domestic helpers about waste segregation.
