PATNA: A 28-year-old man was shot dead while returning from his office at Hajipur-Jandaha main road under Bidupur police station in Vaishali district on Thursday morning.
He was being threatened by an unidentified caller not to marry a girl, who had affair with another youth.
The deceased man, Pankaj Kumar, was married to the girl around five months ago. Irate mob blocked the traffic on the main road, protesting against the administration and police.
According to police, Pankaj and his friend were returning from their night duty at Britannia Biscuit factory, when two bike-borne miscreants stopped them on the road and fired at Pankaj. He died on the spot. However, criminals fled on their bikes.
“His father had complained twice at the police station, but no action was taken by the police. Bidupur station house officer Feraz Hussain has been shifted to Police lines for dereliction of duty. Departmental proceedings will also be conducted against him,” said Vaishali SP Ravi Ranjan Singh, who constituted an SIT to catch the culprits involved in the murder.
