Mizoram to hold cleanliness drive on October 2 | Guwahati News – Times of India

AIZAWL: CM Zoramthanga on Thursday assured the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee that the nationwide cleanliness drive, to be observed on Sunday, will be deferred to Monday in the state.
Representatives of MKHC, a conglomerate of leaders of major church denominations in the state, called on the CM and expressed their opposition to the proposed observance of the drive on Sunday (October 1) as the day is considered sacred for Christians. “Sunday is the day we worship God, in almost all the local churches, by a huge majority of Christian denominations. The Centre’s proposal to organise functions on that very day cannot be accepted,” the MKHC leaders said.
The church leaders further said they will happily comply with the request of the state urban development and poverty alleviation department by reading out a message on the cleanliness drive, across all the local churches, during the Sunday prayer services.
