THANE: The sessions court convicted and sentenced a 52-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of his 75-year-old paternal uncle over a property dispute in 2016.
The convict, Ramdas Budhar, from Palghar district was sentenced after 12 witnesses testified against him in the court of Dr Rachna R Tehra, who also relied on circumstantial evidences.
According to prosecution, there was a long-standing feud between Budhar and his uncle Ambu Navsu Budhar over the ancestral property.
“The Budhar’s father and the victim were real brothers who got the ancestral property land which was further divided among their children. But the accused claimed that he was given the non-fertile portion of land due to which he frequently quarrelled with his uncle,” the prosecution said.
During the early morning of March 05, 2016, the accused decided to eliminate his uncle. While he was sleeping at his farmland at Behadpada, the accused attacked him with an axe and killed him by stabbing him multiple times.
The defence counsel contested the case but the judge after hearing both sides, accepted the evidence placed before it while convicting the accused.
The judge noted that the prosecution has successfully proved all the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubts and hence convicted and sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5000.
