Vadodara: Going by the minutes of the meeting of the search committee that was constituted for appointing a vice-chancellor at M S University, apart from Dr Vijaykumar Srivastava, there were two other candidates who were shortlisted for the post. The two other candidates shortlisted for the post included Dr Jagannath Patil, adviser to the NAAC, Bengaluru and Dr Manoj Dixit, professor and head of Department of Public Administration at University of Lucknow. NAAC assesses and accreditates higher educational institutions across the country. Professor Satish Pathak, who received the details of the minutes of the search committee meeting under RTI, said that both Patil and Dixit had more experience than Srivastava. The members of the search committee included Dr Ajay Ranka, CEO and managing director of Zydex Industries Ltd as chairman, professor Jai Prakask Saini, vice-chancellor of Netaji Subhas University of Technology, New Delhi and professor Pratapsinh Chauhan, vice-chancellor of Sri Govind Guru University, Godhra. tnn

Retired Kabul University professor sells clothes on streets to survive amid unpaid pensions
A retired professor from Kabul University in Afghanistan has been forced to sell second-hand goods on the roadside in order to support his family. Professor Abdul Qayum Khajazada, who taught at the university for 35 years, has not received his pension for the past two years. Many others in Afghanistan are facing similar financial difficulties as the country’s economy has collapsed following the Taliban’s return to power. Unemployment and poverty have surged, leading to widespread hardship. The Taliban’s regime has also led to setbacks in the country’s educational system, particularly for girls.
