CHENNAI: The Tambaram municipal corporation on Sunday conducted a cleanliness drive targeting public spaces, parks, bus stops, hospitals, markets, and roads across its 70 wards.
Mayor Vasanthakumari K, accompanied by municipal staff and volunteers, initiated the cleanup effort in Sanatorium.
This move follows a recent dengue outbreak in Old Pallavaram, prompting corporation commissioner R Alagummena to inspect mosquito control efforts in the area.
Around 2,237 sanitation workers and 4,523 volunteers used 425 vehicles for the drive. At least, 110 metric tonnes of solid waste were removed during the drive.
The mayor also urged residents to refrain from littering public areas and encouraged the separation of garbage into dry and wet waste during the cleanup.
