Varanasi: A two-day national seminar on ‘Teaching-Learning in Mother Tongue (Linguistics): NEP-2020’, organised by the department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, BHU, began at Vedic Vigyan Kendra on Saturday.
HoD Prof. Abhinav Kumar Mishra said over 200 linguists from different parts of the country are attending the event, which emphasizes on the role of education in mother tongue or local language.
He said the NEP-2020 proposes the revamping of all aspects of the education structure, including its regulation and governance. It envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high-quality education to all, and thereby making India a global knowledge superpower.

Govt bid to involve mothers in teaching-learning of primary kids
The state government of Bhubaneswar in India has implemented a program to actively involve mothers in the teaching-learning process to bridge learning gaps and create a stronger educational foundation for children. Mothers of children from classes I to III will participate in foundational literacy and numeracy activities at school and practice them at home. Schools have formed WhatsApp groups to inform mothers about activities and provide resources for home practice. Nagaland implements ‘Teach Tool’ as part of NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) Project to improve classroom education
Nagaland has become the second state in India, after Andhra Pradesh, to implement the World Bank’s “Teach Tool” for classroom observation. The tool serves as a diagnostic tool to assess teaching methods and education quality. The initiative is part of the New Education Policy and is being implemented in collaboration with the Nagaland School Education Department and the World Bank. The baseline data collected through the tool will be used to design effective learning opportunities for teachers. Approximately 400-500 observers will be trained to use the tool, with the aim of enhancing future teacher professional development practices.

200 more AP schools to get Bendapudi tongue
The Readiness Initiative for Situational English (RISE) program, which focuses on improving students’ English-speaking skills, has been extended to various schools in Jaggampeta mandal, Kakinada district. The program, inspired by the successful English model at Bendapudi high school, has so far covered 8,300 students at over 200 schools in the district. Ganta Veera Prasad, the English teacher behind the initiative, has been appointed the district special officer for RISE. The program aims to boost students’ confidence in speaking English and will include a mock G20 summit to improve interview skills.
