Fire at Girgaon high-rise; 27 rescued from bldg terrace – Times of India

MUMBAI: Fire broke out in a 14 storey building in Girgaon at around 2.30 pm on Saturday. According to a BMC press release, the fire broke out in the duct of the Ganesh Krupa CHS in Sikka Nagar, Girgaon. No injuries were reported.
“The fire originated in the electrical wiring in the duct of the first floor. However, smoke from the fire spread to the upper floors logging the passageways and staircase of the upper floors. A team led by Gowalia Tank Station Officer Bhausaheb Jagtap and ADFO Uttam Bhagat supervised the fire fighting operation,” said a fire brigade official.
“Since the firefighting system in the building was not functional, we initially used buckets of water and extinguishers to douse the fire in the duct before our water lines were set up,” said the official. Some of the residents on the upper floors went to the terrace to escape the smoke. The fire brigade opened the terrace door and rescued 27 persons. TNN
