Varanasi: Students of IIT-BHU here are organising the 12th edition of the Model United Nations (MUN) simulation. The three-day conference, which began on Friday, aims to foster deliberations on global challenges among the young minds from across the country.
While addressing the conference, Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted India’s active participation in the United Nations and its aspirations towards securing a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
The opening ceremony was attended by Yogesh Chabria, founder of Happionaire Way, a bestselling author and a TEDx speaker, while the closing ceremony on Sunday will have Anil Trigunayat, former Indian ambassador to Jordan, Libya, and Malta.
According to secretary general Chetan Chavan, the conference will host extensive discussions on critical global issues. TNN

The conference will cover global issues such as women’s participation, the impact of globalization and capitalism on healthcare. It has received support from ambassadors and high commissioners, as well as the Youth 20 (Y20) secretariat affiliated with G20 India. The conference has been encouraged by PM Narendra Modi in the past and has attracted delegates from over 20 countries in previous years.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed India’s G20 Presidency and global challenges during their meeting at the UN Headquarters. They also discussed the situations in Afghanistan and Myanmar. Jaishankar commended Guterres’ commitment to reforming International Financial Institutions. The UN Secretary-General appreciated India’s cooperation and leadership of the G20. Jaishankar also met with the President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, to discuss UNGA priorities and key issues, including UNSC reform and the Sustainable Development Goals. Francis praised India’s G20 Chairmanship and its advocacy for the Global South.

Jaishankar to address United Nations General Assembly
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to address the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today. During his visit to New York, Jaishankar held meetings with various world leaders, including the President of UNGA and foreign ministers from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mexico. He also participated in an event discussing partnerships and global growth. The UNGA President praised India’s role in promoting cooperation and solidarity among the Global South. Jaishankar will subsequently travel to Washington, DC.
