CHENNAI: Barring seven MBBS seats at a deemed university, all seats in state medical colleges were allotted during stray rounds conducted by the state and central agencies.
If these students do not join the colleges they are allotted to by Saturday, they will be debarred for at least a year, as per the new admission policy.
The seats, meanwhile, cannot be filled without the approval of the SC. “This year, the NMC decided vacant seats will not be returned to the respective medical colleges or deemed universities for spot admission.
We tightened the rules to ensure only serious contenders take part in the last round,” said a senior NMC official. Most medical colleges across the country have opened for freshmen and classes have begun, an official said.
