Mysuru: The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) is inching closer to implementing the Bommenahalli Layout project as farmers have agreed to give their land for the development of the layout in exchange for 50 per cent of the developed sites.
Though the project to share sites on a 50:50 basis was planned a decade ago, the urban body has not been able to implement it. Now that the farmers at Bommenahalli have agreed to part with their land by entering into an agreement with the civic body, the project is inching closer to reality. Muda will submit the proposal to urban development department.
A decision to develop the layout at Bommenahalli near Yelwal, on 155 acres of land belonging to different survey numbers of landowners, was taken at the recently held monthly meeting of the urban development body.
As farmers expressed their willingness to develop the layout on a 50:50 sharing basis, the meeting also gave approval for the project as well as made all preparations to send a detailed proposal for the development of a residential layout at Bommenahalli to the state urban development department. Sources said that Muda can develop about 2,000 residential plots of different measurements (20×30, 30×40, 30×50, and 40×50) on the proposed land at Bommenahalli.
The development of the proposed layout has brought cheers to thousands of site applicants as they have been waiting for the distribution of sites for the last many years. According to sources, as many as 82,000 applicants of Muda have been waiting for the distribution of sites since 1995.
Though private layouts are coming up on the city outskirts, there is still a huge demand for Muda sites as it sells its sites at affordable prices to buyers and its applicants.
Speaking to STOI, Muda commissioner GT Dineshkumar said the authority has decided to develop a new layout at Bommenahalli on 155.5 acres of land as land owners have given their willingness in writing. “Muda will soon send a fresh proposal to the state government. Once the state government and urban development authority give their nod for the proposed project, Muda will issue a notification for land acquisition and other layout development processes. Earlier, the land owners were hesitant to provide land to Muda to develop the layouts on a 50: 50 sharing basis, but now they have changed their minds,” he said.
