Hubballi: The HDMC general body meeting, which was scheduled to discuss six agendas related to the development of the city, was stalled over additional subjects added to the agenda without informing opposition members.
Congress corporators termed it a violation of the KMC Act, while BJP members argued saying it could be done in the interest of the public with the permission of the mayor. As the mayor ruled to drop additional subjects, BJP members opposed it.
The meeting, which was supposed to start at 11am, was deferred for an hour due to a lack of a quorum. As it started, council secretary GB Dambala read out the subjects for debate. As he read out 2-3 additional subjects that were not mentioned in the agenda copy distributed to all corporators, opposition leader Suvarna Kallakuntla objected and insisted that he read the KMC Act. As he could not explain the rule, law officer GC Hiremath was summoned to explain it. At this point, BJP members Tippanna Majjagi, Veeranna Savadi, Rajanna Koravi, Shivanand Menasinkayi and others argued that subjects can be taken up in the interest of the public, with the permission of the mayor.
Floor leader Shivu Hiremath said that six subjects were finalised with the consent of the mayor and the opposition leader but two subjects, important in nature, were added with the permission of the mayor Baradwad. Meanwhile, Baradwad remained a mute spectator.
Congress members Sandilkumar S, Rajarao Mannekuntla, Niranjanayya Hiremath, and others demanded to follow the KMC Act and go with the six subjects mentioned in the agenda copy.
The argument continued for about half an hour. As soon as Mayor Veena Baradwad issued a ruling to continue with only six subjects, BJP members protested. Congress members welcomed the ruling by thumping on their tables. Baradwad adjourned the meeting for half an hour. It is said that BJP members took her to task for favouring the opposition. Kallakuntla instructed the council secretary twice to resume the meeting at 12.45pm and 1.10pm. However, Baradwad returned to her chair at 1.30pm and adjourned the meeting sine die. Members had lunch and left home at noon.

Vocational subjects open to all HS students
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary (HS Council) has allowed students to choose vocational subjects as elective subjects, even if they didn’t study them at the secondary level. Centres for 23 subjects only in Bluru upsets aspirants
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has decided to cancel testing centers for 23 out of 41 subjects for the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) and require candidates to travel to Bengaluru instead. This decision was made due to administrative reasons and to ensure a fair testing process. Candidates for the affected subjects have expressed unhappiness with this decision. The KEA has also revised the schedule for NEET PG Medical and NEET PG MDS counseling and allowed students in West Bengal to choose vocational subjects as elective subjects. The KEA is also considering another round of counseling for engineering courses.
