GURGAON: MCG’s sanitation workers on Saturday said they would stage a 24-hour protest outside the residences of the civic body’s commissioner PC Meena, Gurgaon MLA Sudhir Singla and Badshapur MLA Rakesh Daultabad if their demands are not met.
The ongoing protest at the old MCG office continued on Saturday while the workers said that since the civic body was not ready to talk, they will continue the stir.
The sanitation workers said that 3,480 outsourced workers should be called back to duty and their salaries of the last four months should be released.
“We will continue our protest and will hold a meeting on October 3 to decide on the schedule for the 24-hour protest. The salaries of the workers whose services have been terminated too have not been disbursed for the last four months,” said Ram Singh, president of Nagar Palika Karmachari Sangh (Gurgaon).
MCG officials, however, maintained that the decision on the sanctioned posts and employment of sanitation workers is a prerogative of the state government, so they could not do anything about it. About the outsourced workers who have lost their jobs since the new sanitation agencies have started the work, officials said that the new agencies were told to retain the old sanitation workers.
MCG, meanwhile, had decided to deduct salaries of workers who have been suspending their work and joining protests against the civic body.
