Varanasi: Class 10 student of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, Ernakulam, Kerala, Vandana Srinivasan, 15, who spoke on ‘how India can be leading nation for eye donation’, at the two-day 13th National Conference on Cornea and Eye Banking organised by the Eye Bank Association of India here, on Saturday, has been in the limelight for her efforts in socially relevant causes and has received accolades from the highest office in India. Vandana said it was during the Covid-induced lockdown that she honed her artistic talent and learned the latest digital techniques of painting online and put up her artwork on various digital platforms. In two years, she has created a laudable portfolio of varied, innovative and socially pertinent artworks.
Her remarkable artistic achievements include her digital creations for Spice artwork, Consumer Rights Day, World Heart Day, Diabetes Day and World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic victims. Vandana’s state-of-the-art drawing about road traffic victims won her felicitation from the Kerala Police.
Vandana has been campaigning actively for eye donation awareness along with Giridhar Hospital for over a year. As part of the campaign, she met the Ernakulam district collector, Kerala legislative opposition leader, doctors, professors and several other important persons.
Vandana and her friends organised an awareness programme on the World Sight Day at the Kerala High Court. Her ambition is to pursue a career in arts. She received a note of appreciation from the President of India and Indian Army Chief for her artwork. Her first of its kind art on environmental protection, particularly on the reduction of plastic use, has drawn huge appreciation.
Along with two of her friends, she co-founded the social startup ‘chasindreams.in’ to improve the lives of the visually challenged.
The event on Saturday was organised at the Netrodaya the Eye City in Dafi area. The inaugural day speakers included Dr Radhika Tandon, Dr Sunil Sah and Dr Manisha Acharya.

Fletcher, an emeritus professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, is recognized for her work on epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Her collaboration with Aravind Eye Care System began in 1992 when she was invited to develop a quality-of-life assessment for a trial. She has since investigated the effectiveness of outreach eye camps in addressing community eye care needs.

Raveena Tandon, a 90s actor, discussed her past relationships and work ethics in a recent interview. She stated that she has been open with her daughters about her past, as they may come across it in the media anyway. Raveena also mentioned her strict no-kissing policy in films and recalled an incident where a male actor accidentally brushed his lips against hers. She expressed her discomfort and nausea after the incident. When asked about her daughter potentially doing kissing scenes, Raveena said it would depend on her comfort level.
