MEERUT: A 16-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death on Friday after he asked his friend to return Rs 30 he’d lent him a few days earlier.
Ritik Kumar, a Class 11 student and resident of Baghpat, had asked the accused (whose identity has not been disclosed as he is a minor) to return the money, upon which a verbal spat ensued.
The incident took place on a busy street in Rajpur Khampur village under the jurisdiction of Baraut police station when the accused, along with his uncle and two others, initially thrashed him. According to bystanders, the accused fled the scene.
“We were having dinner when Ritik left the house and went to the shop of his friend’s uncle. By the time we heard about the situation, things had turned ugly. They grabbed Kumar’s neck, and allegedly killed him,” said Ritik’s uncle Ghanshyam.
Baraut SHO Devesh Kumar told TOI, “Although no visible injuries were seen on his body, autopsy reports confirm strangulation as cause of death. An FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) was lodged against the accused following a complaint by the victim’s family.”
Of the four accused, the minor was detained and two arrested. One person remains to be identified, he added.
