CALANGUTE: Two people from Karnataka were arrested by Calangute police on Saturday for allegedly attempting to murder a police constable during a narcotics raid on Friday night.
The accused have been identified as Sundeep Kumar, 26, a native of Andhra Pradesh currently residing in Bengaluru, and Vasant Devendra Madival, 32, a native of Karwar.
The incident occurred on Friday night at Gauravaddo, Calangute, when the police were conducting a narcotics raid.
Police noticed a car bearing a Karnataka registration number plate moving in a suspicious manner, intercepted it, and nabbed Madival.
While head constable Vidyanand Amonkar was escorting Madival towards the police van that was parked nearby, the other accused, Kumar, allegedly reversed the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and knocked him down and dragged him for about 20m.
Amonkar suffered injuries to his face and fractured his hip joint. He has been admitted to the Goa Medical College.
Further investigations are ongoing.
