BHUBANESWAR: Blood sample of the mother and baby was collected by Capital Hospital authorities in Bhubaeswar on Monday for DNA matching in connection with an alleged baby swapping case.
As per the protocol, a local court in Bhubaneswar asked the capital hospital to depute a doctor for sample collection. Earlier, the parents had filed an affidavit that reflected their willingness to give blood sample of the baby and the mother. The blood sample was collected in the presence of police.
The baby, yet to be accepted by the parents, is under hospital’s care since birth.
“The blood sample has been collected as per the established norms under court’s supervision. The DNA sampling will be done at State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), said “Padman Pradhan, IIC, capital police station.
Earlier, an internal inquiry by the Capital hospital authorities had found that uttering baby boy was just a ‘slip of tongue’ while handing over the bay to the father. According to them a baby girl was born to Samita Gahanaat 4.20 am on Tuesday. But father of the new born refused to take the baby girl suspecting that there has been a swapping.
The hospital authorities meanwhile have suspended a female attendant (nurse) of the gynaecology department citing negligence on her part while handing over the baby leading to the confusion.
