Hubballi: Namma Clinics, which were set up to provide health services to the needy at their own localities and help the labour class and farmers, are now getting closer to achieving their goals by changing their timing.
Select Namma Clinics, which used to function from 9am to 4.30pm, have changed their timetable now, based on directions from the government. The working hours of a few Namma Clinics have been changed on a trial basis, which has garnered a positive response from the public.
In Dharwad district, Namma Clinics at Madihal in Dharwad and in SM Krishna Nagar of Hubballi have been changed to provide health services in two shifts. According to new rules, these clinics will open at 8am and close at 12pm. The clinics will reopen in the evening at 4pm and close at 8pm.
In Dharwad district, there are a total of six Namma Clinics – two each in Hubballi and Dharwad, and one each in Annigeri and Navalgund. Among these, the timings of the two clinics have been changed.
District health officer Dr Shashi Patil said a large number of labourers and farmers reside near the Namma Clinics at Madihal in Dharwad and SM Krishna Nagar in Hubballi which have been identified for working on two shifts morning and evening.
“From September 27, both these clinics are functioning in two shifts. Both have been receiving good response. Labourers and farmers are visiting these clinics during late evening hours and are happy with the change in timings,” she added. According to the sources in the health department, the staff working in two shifts are finding it difficult to reach their home at night due to lack of transport and other facilities. The staff members have already notified their higher officials about these problems, sources added.
Dr Patil said that in each Namma Clinic, a doctor, a nurse, a lab technician and a group D employee work.
