Jaisalmer: The Border Security Force (BSF) carried out an extensive cleanliness campaign across Jaisalmer district both on Sunday and Monday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Cleanliness drives were conducted at Sam Sandwich and Tanot Mateshwari temple on Monday. All battalions of BSF in Jaisalmer district led by DIG (north sector) Yogendra Singh Rathore and DIG (south sector) Vikram Kumar took part in this campaign, said officials.
The Ramdev Baba temple premises were cleaned by BSF’s 87th Battalion on Monday. The cleanliness campaign at Sam was carried out by the personnel of the 154th battalion along with the locals. The message of cleanliness was also given to tourists visiting Sam. Led by commandant Manjeet Singh, the battalion’s personnel cleaned sand dunes, the primary health centre and nearby areas.
Programmes related to cleanliness were also organised in various battalion headquarters in Jaisalmer north sector. BSF’s regional headquarters north and the 191st battalion cleaned the main campus area, railway station and Indira Colony while the 92nd battalion cleaned Gadisar Chowk and Air Force Circle. The 166th battalion cleaned Tanot Mata temple area and the Tanot village market area. The 87th battalion cleaned all roads in Pokaran tehsil.
The cleanliness drives were conducted under the instruction and guidance of BSF IG Puneet Rastogi, said officials. Such drives were also conducted in Bikaner, Sriganganagar and Barmer districts.

The aim is to make India garbage-free and people can join by cleaning waste in various public places. MCC is also conducting poets meets from October 17 to 21 at different venues in the city. In Ludhiana, the municipal corporation is encouraging residents to participate in a cleanliness campaign on October 1st to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The District Legal Service Authority in Kanpur will organize a week-long cleanliness program from October 2 to 9 to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh will also organize a cleanliness campaign in every ward on October 1.

Additionally, a tree plantation drive and a pledge to undertake 100 hours of cleanliness activities will be carried out. In another initiative, the second phase of the Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan will be launched by Ramakrishna Mission, focusing on waste segregation and awareness drives. Southern Railways Palakkad division is also observing Swachhata Pakhwada to enhance cleanliness standards.
