KALYAN: In a video going viral on social media, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers can be seen allegedly beating three hawkers in Kalyan after a youth approached them complaining that the trio had physically assaulted him.
The MNS workers alleged that on Sunday, the youth identified as Kailash Ghanke, from Vashind near Shahapur taluka, Thane district, had gone to the hawkers to return some defective items when they passed a comment saying, “Marathi people always do like this.” This triggered an argument during which the hawkers manhandled him. Thereafter, he approached the local MNS workers who allegedly beat up the hawkers.
The Mahatma Phule police have however, denied MNS’ claim about the scuffle between the hawkers and the youth. They have filed a non-cognisable offence and have served notices to the hawkers . While, Ghanke refused to speak to the media, senior inspector Ashok Honmane said, “Primary probe has revealed that Ghanke allegedly bought a hand bend and hid another in his pocket which the hawker noticed and charged him for both. However, Ghanke objected saying he bought only one which led to the argument.”
