BHUBANESWAR: At least 45 passengers onboard a Bhubaneswar-bound bus from Angul had a lucky escape on Tuesday after the bus rammed into the concrete railing of flooded Mahanadi river near Banki in Odisha‘s Cuttack district.
Police sources said that the passengers were evacuated from the bus windows, leading to their miraculous escape.
The accident took place after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Following the freak mishap, the bus was perched precariously from the broken railing of the bridge, triggering panic among passengers.
While the cause of the accident is being ascertained, the transport department and police have launched a joint inquiry.
“All passengers are safe. It would have been a big tragedy had the bus fallen into the river, which is in spate owing to incessant rains. The driver will be questioned as to how the accident occurred,” a senior police officer said.
